So I want to talk a little about Facebook Ads and how you can get started with Facebook Ads very easily if you’ve never done them before.
They’re really great for driving traffic and generating leads.
But they’re not intuitive, so here are a few tips you can use if you’ve never used them before.
Plus, I’ve put together a guide showing how to figure out who to target on Facebook (more on this later). You can grab it here:
Facebook Ads Tutorial
1) Try to keep your budget small
First tip: if you have never done a Facebook ad before, try to keep your budget small.
I actually recommend you keep your budget to about $1 to $5.
Even $5 or $10 a day (in total) is usually okay. But if you’re going to spend it on different audiences, you want it to be $1-$5 for each audience.
The big reason why you want to do this is that this is going to enable you to keep your costs down and not blow up a whole bunch of money when you start testing different things.
2) Create different audiences
There are a lot of different audiences with Facebook Ads. Here are a few examples.
- Custom audiences. These are people who have interacted with you in some way, shape or form. You know they may have visited your website, watched your videos, or engaged with your Instagram and Facebook profiles.
- Warm audiences. These are things like your fans or friends of your fans. They know you and therefore are probably going to be more interested in your stuff.
- Lookalike audiences. These are audiences that are based on custom audiences. In other words, they are people who don’t know you but they’re interested in the same things. So, most likely, they’re going to be interested in what you have to offer.
- Interest audiences. This is one of my favorite ways to target on Facebook. The key is to try and keep your interests separated by different ad sets. For every type of interest, make a separate audience for it in the Ads Manager.
3) Think like a Facebook post
Another good tip when you’re going to be using Facebook Ads is trying to think like a Facebook post.
Don’t try to make a generic ad. Think of it like a Facebook post.
So when you write your text, you want to be friendly. Here are a few ways you can do this.
Write a question
One tip I recommend is to try and write a question and then write the solution afterward. Here are some examples:
- Are you struggling with ___?
- Are you looking for ___?
- Do you want to ___?
Try that when you’re writing your text.
Start with a verb
When you’re writing your headline, a good tip is to try and start with a verb. For example:
- Get started ___ today
- Try ___ today
Do something that uses a verb. Don’t write explicitly what you’re giving away.
Explain benefits
Use your ad to explain the benefits of what you’re offering so that people are interested and they check it out. Don’t focus on what you’re giving; focus on what the person reading the ad is going to get.
For example, if I was giving away a guide to Facebook ads, I would write about the guide and how to get better reach, more leads, and possibly more sales.
4) Split-test your ads
The last tip I’m gonna give you for Facebook Ads is you want to split-test them.
Look at your analytics after you run your ad for at least 24 to 48 hours. See which audiences work and which ones don’t (based on your ad objective). Then turn off the ones that are too expensive.
If you’re interested, go to the ads level. For every ad set you have, check the different kinds of ads in there. Again, see which ones are doing well and which ones aren’t.
This process is a good way for you to make sure that everything is working smooth and crystal clear.
